Jessie's Antique Barn is located in the very heart of Louisiana, on Highway 28 East at Libuse, about 10 miles east of Alexandria and 4 miles east of Pineville, LA. The huge Red Barn, trimmed in white, is a landmark in Libuse. Designed and built by Jessie's husband, Carl Gunter, Jr. and their sons, the barn itself is a delight to view. The old barn built of cypress and cedar with a metal roof houses 5000 square feet of everything imaginable on the bottom floor and features a loft half the length of the building. Visitors to the barn enter through big old handmade cypress doors and ring a cowbell to be recognized. Everything about the Red Barn is old and rustic, reminding customers of the "good old days."
Inside the barn, patrons will find many items that they rarely see including old clocks, blue and white stoneware, black memorabilia, salt and pepper shakers, cookie jars, old books, glassware and china, silver, furniture, Christmas, Easter, Halloween items, old records, Coca Cola items, old prints, toys, old gas heaters, Watt pottery, crocks and bowls, kerosene lamps, Andrea by Sadat figurines, old 8 and 16 mm movies, jewelry, tools, pharmacy items, and countless other items. More things are also found upstairs in the loft, including a great collection of dog, cat and wildlife figures by Conversation Concepts, hardback and paperback books, old VHS and DVD movies, CD's and cassettes, old handmade quilts, glassware and china, sugar and creamers, teapots, framed prints, and other household items.
Jessie's Antique Barn, also familiarly called the Red Barn by those who know it, was closed many years, but is now open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM each week. If you are traveling through Louisiana, by all means stop and visit a few minutes with us. And if you are not just passing through and you like old things and collectibles, make a special trip down to the bayou state and "sit a spell" as old-timers used to say. We think you will have a good time and that you'll be glad you came.
